Lounging at the loft

Posted by Melody in being melodious

Since Mikey has stopped posting updates about his place, I’ve taken the liberty of doing it myself. So, here we go:

1. A new couch from Room & Board. We waited nearly 2 months for “Klein” to arrive and when it did, Mikey lamented about its greenish tint. Once we got it situated with accessories, the green disappeared.

2. A luxurious brown throw from Nordstrom– a birthday gift from his parents– that is so soft that you just wanna take your clothes off and wrap your nekked body in it.

3. An orange Dr. Skud Fly Swatter by Alessi– a gift from sister Erin. It doesn’t really fit in the living room, so it’s been staring at us from the kitchen counter, just like it stared at us during our first date

4. A wall print that’s been hung above his couch. I think it’s a stretched print on fabric, and the print is comprised of black silhouettes of trees with some rust orange and other shades of beige surrounding it, sort of like clouds. I never took art history or even one art class in college, so please excuse my elementary description of it. Anyway, the piece is pretty cool and looks perfect in the living room. It’s one of 2 prints that he snagged from his parental units.

5. A Neutra throw pillow in an orangey-red color. I found this at a cool Japanese-owned boutique up the street from my place in the LBC, called KROW. Richard Neutra is a famed architect known for his modern designs. Turns out it’s his dad’s favorite architect, so booyah, I scored with this purchase!

 6. And, lastly, you can’t discount what a lil GUITAR HERO Rocks the 80s will do to a mid-century modern living room! Mikey bought this the day it came out and has nearly mastered all the songs at the “expert” level. He’s gotten me playing it, and the songs are now stuck in my head…and I ra-a-an, I ran so far awa-a-ay…

It was only a matter of time before Rihanna introduced a line of umbrellas-ellas-ellas-eh-eh-eh.

My new buddy: Steve

Ok, so I’ve succumbed to the pressure of technology and cracked open the box. This is the FIRST piece of apple hardware I’ve ever owned. I’ve managed to stand firm ever since working in the Quadra lab in the UCSB MCL, fighting off any temptation to own an Apple device. That was back in 1995. Its now 2007! Times have changed, and evidently, so have I. Mikey is now the proud OWNER and content USER of the iPhone. Overall I’m impressed with it, very impressed with it. Maybe this is the same feeling that the Gen1 iPod owners felt, maybe its different. None the less it is a great piece of hardware, and a great application of current technology. Although the software is somewhat limited, the interface is revolutionary by its use of multi-touch technology and virtual keyboard. I won’t do a review as there have been many-many-many done already so I’ll just express my dear satisfaction and contentment with said device. Thank you Steve, you are cool. Haha.

Anyone who’s anyone, on the geek side of life, has been bombarded with everything and anything iPhone lately.

I too have fallen victim to the hype. Waiting in line for more hours than I care to admit I get my hands on a nice precious 8GB iPhone. 2 days later I pick up another 4GB one. Not sure why. My Precious. Neither have been opened, and I try to keep them in bed with me at night but the GF threatens to have me sleep on the floor if I continue the madness. Nonetheless I cannot wait until the hype has subsided and the world of easy-going-geekdom is restored.

My Precious, what will become of thee?
