My brother, Bonanza, introduced me to Mayer Hawthorne, a relatively new R&B artist who brings a vintage, retro flavor to our iPods and our Squeezeboxes. This particular music video is shot locally in Venice Beach, and skateboarder and MTV reality star Rob Dyrdek even makes a cameo!
Reminds me of Raphael Saadiq’s recent sound. Diggin’ this vintage sound! Makes me want to put on a little pillbox hat and white kid gloves…

Oh yeah, Laura from the office grew up with this guy back in Michigan. Middle name is Mayer, and Hawthorne is a street in Ann Arbor (that he lived on?).
