About Mikey

Mikey, born Michael Vincent Swain, is a Minneapolis, Minnesota native. Displaced to Texas at the age of 5, he remained in the lone star state halfway through middle school before migrating to California with his parents and sister. Settling in Orange County, California, Mikey attended Woodbridge High School before being admitted to the University of California, Santa Barbara. There, he studied computer science and studio arts, supplementing his college education with frequent frat parties and debauchery. After his stint at the university, he became part of the design team at Artisan Studios aka Lenny Yates VanHoy Architects aka LYVA aka The Conceptual Motion Company. Looking for new challenges, Mikey headed east to the Big Apple after spending over 9 years in beautiful Santa Barbara. Thanks to Craigslist, Mikey easily found a Brooklyn loft (405) to call home and employment with NYC-based Clos-ette, designing specialty casework for the young and old aristocrats of the city. One of his most notable projects to date: creating a nursery/office space for Liv Tyler and her husband in their Greenwich Village brownstone. Striving to learn more about architecture and its tools he joined Thomson Architects as a project manager. After 2 years in “The City” he moved back to California to join his father at the architectural firm Wood Burghard Swain Architects (WBSA) in Irvine. There he acts as a Senior Project Manager with projects focusing mainly on healthcare facilities. He also assumes the job of in-house “IT guy” and all around “serious guy.”
Loft405.com is Mikey’s side project and experimental platform for his inventive blogging and pod-casting endeavors.
