Music with a little old school flavor

Posted by Melody in Music Bijeos, being melodious

My brother, Bonanza, introduced me to Mayer Hawthorne, a relatively new R&B artist who brings a vintage, retro flavor to our iPods and our Squeezeboxes. This particular music video is shot locally in Venice Beach, and skateboarder and MTV reality star Rob Dyrdek even makes a cameo!

Reminds me of Raphael Saadiq’s recent sound. Diggin’ this vintage sound! Makes me want to put on a little pillbox hat and white kid gloves…

bowling for fruit

There’s nothing like a good bowl to display your fruit. We’re not just talking about baskets here or some lame ceramic bowl that you painted at Color Me Mine. We’re talking bowls, baby. Bowls.

Satellite Bowl
The Satellite Bowl – architectural, a commanding way to call attention to your fruit.

Lobo Square Basket
Lobo Square Basket, reintroduced by Alessi, exclusively for the MOMA store – smooth, sleek, and steel.

Lorea Bowl

AirMail case

As expected, there’s a new case for the MacBook Air (and, unfortunately, it’s not a Belkin one, ha ha) that is in the form of a manila envelope: AirMail. Though predictable, it is clever nonetheless, given Apple’s boasts that the Air will easily fit into a standard-sized manila envelope. (via DailyCandy)

Good Wood

Posted by Melody in being melodious

There’s something about wood when used as decor or fashion accessories that’s so clean, sophisticated, and unassuming.

Some wood items that I’m feening for:

West Elm Wood Grain Rug
Wood Grain Rug from West Elm (via uncrate)

Plantation Pine Lamp
Plantation Pine Lamp by Hennig Dyes for La Vida Verde, a Costa Rican design company (via apartmenttherapy). You can purchase it at mxyplyzyk

At Home at David Galindo

David Galindo

Down the road from my A-P-T in the L-B-C is a quaint home furnishings and design shop called David Galindo Home. It’s in a renovated craftsman, run by a furniture designer, David Galindo next to my gas station (what I call a ghetto gas station, but just recently got bought by Valero). With a flair for mid-century modern, he offers his own custom designed and built furniture. He also carries a host of household goods, including candles, lighting, books, mirrors, and kitchen wares.

It’s my favorite store– as well as my sister Annie’s, who’s got street cred because she’s an interior designer. Annie says he’s got a great merchandising eye. Yeah, I agree.
