My brother, Bonanza, introduced me to Mayer Hawthorne, a relatively new R&B artist who brings a vintage, retro flavor to our iPods and our Squeezeboxes. This particular music video is shot locally in Venice Beach, and skateboarder and MTV reality star Rob Dyrdek even makes a cameo!

Reminds me of Raphael Saadiq’s recent sound. Diggin’ this vintage sound! Makes me want to put on a little pillbox hat and white kid gloves…

I was surfing the net late last night and stumbled up David Sides. He’s definitely unique in how his solo piano recitals capture to essence of hip, take a look and listen below. Very cool.

Gruff Rhys from Welsh super band Super Furry Animals took some time off and recorded the album Candylion which was released earlier this year. The uber 70’s look to this video is classic PBS; I can picture this video being shown between episodes of 321 Contact and Bob Ross painting “Happy Little Trees.” The lighthearted nature of this song reminds me a bit of Superball Bop too!
